To be and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ
Vision
To glorify God by being a gospel-centered church family that celebrates, demonstrates, and communicates the good news of Jesus Christ among all people
Who is Jesus?
Many people think that the bible is a story about a bunch of good guys and bad guys. But, it's really a story about a bunch of wicked men and Jesus. Jesus was a good teacher and a good man, but he was far greater. Learn about him Click here.

Directions
We are located in downtown Mound, between the Hennepin County Library and the Pond Sports Center.
Our Church Culture
We are a part of the Evanglical Free Church of America and located in downtown Mound. We are a church family that is dedicated to understanding and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel or "good news" of Jesus Christ is the simple truth that Jesus Christ came to the world to die for sinners and conquer death through his resurrection. As a church we desire to understand the depths of the gospel by thouroghly studying the Bible together. We do this through our Sunday morning sermon and also throughout the week in community groups and mentoring relationships. We labor as a church to understand the bible and the gospel of Christ because we have been called to share Jesus with the world. When Christ ascended into heaven he called his disciples to continue making disciples so that more people may get to know the grace of God through Christ. So we invite you to join us and learn about this Jesus who has changed our lives and hearts.
Service Times
Adult Bible Study: 9:00 am
Sunday Worship: 10:30 am
Parking
Visitor parking is available in our parking lot. Additionally, many of our regular attenders park on Alder St. between the church and the Pond arena. Overflow parking is available adjacent to the church at the Hennepin County library.
Children
We love children and consider it a great privilege to care for them.
We have a supervised nursery as well as age-appropriate children's classes
(pre-school - 2nd grade). We encourage primary school aged children to join us
in worship for the first half of our meeting then dimiss those 2nd grade and younger
to children's church.
Community groups are the main vessel for discipleship at Mound Free Church. This is where we apply the biblical teaching that we hear in the sermon on Sunday. This is where we get to live our lives along like-minded believers who are celebrating, demonstrating and communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is where we start. Simply put: all of us are in desperate
need of Jesus. Though we are created in the image of an eternal God who
offers us supreme satisfaction in himself, each of us have chosen sub-par
pleasures in the pursuit of this world in place of him. This is the essence
of sin. We are all on a hell-bound race with nothing to restrain us. We
need liberation or we will be lost. Enter: Jesus. 2000 years ago, in his
matchless grace, the Son of God took on human flesh in Jesus of Nazareth to
live a perfect, sinless life and die a sacrificial, sin-bearing death in the
place of all who would ever turn from their rebellion and place their faith
in him. He conquered death on the third day in his victorious resurrection
and now lives to see people drawn to him as the sole mediator between God
and people. This is the good news (the gospel) of Jesus.

Personal Evangelism
Our mission as a church is to be and make disciples of Jesus. That mission contains dimensions of depth and breadth, of health as well as growth. It's a balance that's not easily achieved, so toward this end our vision is to be a gospel-centered church family. One that celebrates Christ as we treasure him above all things, demonstrates Christ as we are transformed into his image, and communicates Christ as we spread the good news of Jesus among all people. We believe that all our ministry as church will either celebrate, demonstrate or communicate the good news of Jesus Christ.
Learn More about what we believe in our Statement of Faith
At Mound Free Church, we put a high premium on truth as it is connected to the life changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our fellowship is a part of a movement of churches in this country known as the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and we embrace the theological convictions of this movement. The EFCA Statement of Faith is set forth in 10 articles that unfold what we believe. As we study theology as a church family, our desire is to pursue gospel-shaped truths so we can see the vital connections between the pages of the Bible and the person of Jesus Christ. Our doctrinal convictions are all aspects of the gospel. To that end, we believe that.
1. The gospel originates in and expresses the wondrous perfections of the eternal, triune God.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.
2. The gospel is authoritatively revealed in the Scriptures.
We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.
3. The gospel alone addresses our deepest human need .
We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.
4. The gospel is made known supremely in the Person of Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus-Israel’s promised Messiah-was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
5. The gospel is accomplished through the work of Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.
6. The gospel is applied by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.
7. The gospel is now embodied in the new community called the church.
We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.
8. The gospel compels us to Christ-like living and witness to the world.
We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.
9. The gospel will be brought to fulfillment by the Lord Himself at the end of the age.
We believe in the personal, bodily and premillennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.
10. The gospel requires a response that has eternal consequences.
We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
The movement of churches of which we are a part (the EFCA) is an association of autonomous churches. That means that we are congregational in government. Within a framework of congregationalism, our church is lead by a group of Elders. The Bible teaches that Elders are a group of godly, male, servant-hearted shepherds who lead the church through personal example, prayer, and the ministry of the Word of God. We invite you to take a moment and read the brief biographies below and learn more about the men who shepherd our fellowship.
Dave Abernethy
Dave grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. He came to saving faith in Jesus Christ during the summer of 1998 while a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. He served for two years as Assistant Pastor at Village Church of Lincolnshire in Lake Forest, IL and accepted the call to Mound Free in 2005. He is married to Melissa and has a son named Caleb and a daughter named Mia. Dave's passions include preaching, caring for the flock at Mound Free, and living for the advance of the gospel in the city of Mound and the Westonka area. He also enjoys reading theology (especially the Puritans), listening to music (mainly old singer-songwriters), and running.
Wayne Hubin
Farm boy from West Central Minnesota. Current profession.......Retired after 34 years of manufacturing operations management. I came to know the Lord initially when our family attended a series of evangelistic meetings in our country church. During the course of those meetings I went forward (at the age of 8) and confessed my sins and asked the Lord to come and live in my heart. I also remember rededicating my life to Him at Bible Camp when I was age 14. The Lord has given me many opportunities of service and renewal through out the years, and I pray and believe there will be many more, as He enables. I believe there is no retirement from being a witness and follower of Christ.
Tim Preble
I was born and raised in the Twin Cities metro community of Anoka Minnesota. I graduated from Anoka High School and Anoka Technical College and later from Crown College with a B.S. in Business Management and an M.A. in Organizational Leadership. I have always known of Jesus Christ, but surrendered my life to him through a long journey of discovery involving biblical truth and fact finding regarding the Christian faith. However, discovery is an aside to the experiential relationship gained when finally surrendering one’s life to Prince of Peace and Lord of Lords Jesus Christ. My journey continues with the ever deepening love that God shows me through his Grace and Mercy. Jan accepted my proposal and we were married in 1985, and have made Mound our home for over 16-years. I work as a Quality Engineer and manage a quality team for a large international corporation. I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve Mound Evangelical Free Church as an Elder and I pray that God would see fit to guide my steps and give me strength in the leadership process of Mound Evangelical Free Church.

Prayer
Paul encourages the church in thesolonica to "pray without ceasing," (1 Thes. 5:17) one way our church is trying to cultivate this type of lifestyle is through prayer in community groups, sunday worship and wednesday morning prayer. A small group of guys meets every wednesday morning at 6:30 to pray for the westonka area and global missions.
Music
We believe that the music we sing should lift up the glory of our God and communicate the truth of the Gospel.
Youth Group
Men's Minstry
We believe it is essential to train the men to be leaders in our church and provide a few different opportunities to individually train men.
Compassion Team
The Mound Free Compassion Team helps West Tonka community members financially in areas that are not covered by other organizations. Our resources are there to help folks when they have run out of state, county, or federal options. We try to help when others won't or can't.
Our Missionaries
Mound Free supports 5 different missionary families serving around the world, here is a brief summary of the work that each family is doing to share the grace and mercy of our God.
Community groups are the main vessel for discipleship at Mound Free Church. This is where we start to apply the theology, doctrine and biblical ideas that we hear in the sermon on sunday. This is where we get to live our lives along like-minded believers who are celebrating, demonstrating and communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is also the place where mission and evanglism happens.
Contact Dave Abernethy if you are interested in getting involved in a community group. Or talk to a friend at our church they would love for you to join their community of believers.
Why Community Groups?
The bible does not say that christians must be in a community group, but it does instruct us to live out the one another's with other believers. When we looked through these instructions as a church we first concluded that all of these cannot be lived out on a sunday morning. Second, we saw that the best practical way to live these out is to be sharing our lives with one another in community groups.

15. Wash one another's feet - John 13:14
What Should I expect?
Every week at a community group will be a little different, but there are similarities in all our groups. We meet in peoples homes because it is one of the quickest ways to get involved in each other's lives. Most of our groups go through discussion questions based off the sunday sermon. If you are able to attend the sunday morning sermon you will be ready to discuss the content you heard in a community group. We pray together and share lives with each other. These groups are a community of different people united because of the faith they have in Jesus Christ.

Men's Ministry
Saturday Morning Breakfast (Monthly)

Starts at 7:30 am once a month
Friday Morning Bible Study
Guy Runkle leads a small group of men through a study. This is a great time to connect with other men, study the scriptures together and challenge one another.
Starts at 6:30 am
Below is the discussion guide for the group
Mentorship
We desire to have men investing into other men in one-on-one relationships. Older men are instructed to build into younger men (Titus 2, 1 Tim. 5:1-2) and Paul reflects a desire to invest in others because he has been transformed by the Gospel (1 Thess. 2:8). So find someone you connect with, invite them to have coffee and give them what you have learned from peole who have taught you about Christ.

What can Mound Free do for you?
We can assist you with any immediate food, diaper, or gasoline needs that you have. After you go to the food shelf, or if you are in a food crisis, call or come up to the church and use our in-house food pantry. If there are immediate items that you need which are not available at the Westonka food shelf we can help you get those.
We are also here to help fill in the gaps where other aid agencies are not able to help. Because we are a crisis ministry we ALWAYS ask people to follow the steps listed below. We also are here to help you with non-traditional ways such as an auto repair, appliance repair, a ride if you don't have one, someone to talk to, and of course, prayer. If there is a need, ask, we will help you or direct you to someone who can assist you.
Contact: info_moundfree.org
Immediate steps you can take to utilize larger-scale community resources.
1) Contact WeCAN (Westonka Community Action Network) at 952-472-0742 and explain the situation to them. They are funded by the state/county and have a much larger pool of funds than we do. They have funded resources to assist with rent. WeCan is located in a building directly across from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church/School in Mound. You can go directly to the building during normal business hours. You do not need an appointment.
2) Ask WeCan to make an appointment for you with the Westonka Food Shelf. They will make the call for you if you do not have a phone. The food shelf is supplied by all of the area churches and other organizations. The food shelf is accessible three times in a calendar year. The food shelf is located directly across the street from WeCan. The food shelf will also give you a voucher for milk and bread at Jubilee.
3) Ask WeCan to help you sign up for Energy Assistance. If they do not have the applications, ask them to call the Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin County at 952-930-3541. They will get the application going.
4) Also ask WeCan for a voucher to the Penny Wise thrift store. There you can get clothing and household items.
5) Also ask WeCan if they provide a gas card. Typically these are $10. Or $20
Mound Free church believes that all believers are missionaries to the culture they are living in, some are called to travel overseas to learn a new culture and share the good news of Jesus Christ with people. These are individuals that Mound Free has sent to other cultures to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Stout Family
We are working with SEND International in Macedonia. We are in the midst of planting a church in the city of Skopje, with another missionary couple and single lady from Send Interantional. Brian is a passionate evangelist who loves to tell friends about the grace and mercy of Christ. He is continuing to invest in college age guys, leads prayer ministry at their church, and invests in Macedonians with the Word of God. We are blessed with 5 wonderful children: Joy, Isaiah, Benjamin, Grace, and Hope. Our kids go to the Macedonian School and also Debby does homeschooling with our children, and serves with Brian in reaching out to our community through English classes, prayer ministry, and the Word of God.
The Kieffer Family
Charles and Shelly Kieffer have been ministering in Lodz, Poland for the last 14 years. They sensed God’s call to work in Poland many years ago. This call has been confirmed by seeing new people come to Christ – especially this term. God has lead them to focus on 5 areas: praying for the Lodz region, making disciples of Jesus Christ, starting new churches, equipping church leaders and developing team Lodz. God has been working through their ministry and they are waiting for a new team member next year.
The Hutchcraft Family
Matt and Jaci Hutchcraft serve with SEND International in the Central Black Soil Region of Russia. We live in Tambov where we currently work with church leadership in order to develop ministry in three key areas. First we seek to help develop ministries in local orphanages developing relationships with both the kids and staff. Second, is to develop a new ministry to Orphanage graduates, where we seek to provide housing, life coaching skills, job training, complete their education, and most importantly understand the person of Jesus Christ. Third, we are developing an educational component for the church that will help them learn and consider the possibility of adoption of kids from orphanages in their cities.
We seek in all things to live a life that points lost people to a Father who loves and created them, to His son Jesus the only true source of meaning, joy, and salvation. We desire to connect individuals with a local body of believers in order to help them grow into dynamic and vibrant Christians who desire to impact the world for the Kingdom of God.
The Bryce Family
Currently Debbie and I are located in Baja CA, Mexico. I am the pastor of the English speaking staff at Foundation For His Ministry. You may wonder what this has to do with reaching Native Americans/First Nations people. Let me help you understand. Debbie and I have been bringing groups of Native people to this place for the past 16 years. Most of the groups we bring include non-Christians. We have found this place to be one where Native people from the US and Canada meet Jesus in the context of a people and a culture very similar to theirs and a place where those who know the Lord grow significantly. The effectiveness of this place, because of the Lord’s work through the people here, has not been lost on other staff members of NAIM. Thirty two current or former staff members have brought groups of Native people to this ministry center. In short, through our one year here, we are hoping we can host more Native people then in the past.
More information about NAIM can be found at: www.naim.ca
